I love Utility furniture manufactured after the war until the early 1950s to feed the country with affordable furniture which there was a shortage of after the war.
The simplicity and practicality of the 1940s utility furniture designs, still hold there own extremely well now. With a little Refunking to make them fabulous in modern day home 😉 They were really built to last!
This Tall boy has been stripped of it’s dark brown varnish to reveal oak veneer. It was then finished in a matt clear varnish to give it a bare wood beauty to the frame, top and drawer fronts.
The side panels were picked out in ‘Mountain Moss’, eggshell.
I revived the original knobs with the same green and added two padlock knobs to the bottom drawer as it is a ‘Top Secret’ drawer for a very special little boys new bedroom. Which he has chosen a rain forest theme. Think Lemurs, birds, tree canopy, yellows, blues, greens. Amazing!!
Cannot wait to see it in its funky forever home.
