Description

This 1930s-1940s vintage glass sided and shelved cabinet with working lock and key has been stripped back and redesigned in the style of William Morris. Whilst also being inspired by working here in my workshop in the Forest of Dean.

The William Morris vintage cotton linen in ‘Compton’ print suits the cabinets original style perfectly. I’ve highlighted the legs in a deep Arabian red eggshell whilst being aged slightly with black and gold.. The bottom shelf pics out the light sagey green in the fabric. Whilst the side window panel frames and door frame have been painted in a painterly effect to bring in all the greens from the fabric subtly whilst giving a naturally aged finish. From light greens to teal.

The bare wood parts of this piece are my favourites. the two waved panels on each side at the front are so tactile. They’re refinished in Osmo Oil to a silky soft finish. The top has the most gorgeous walnut veneer with a vivid dark brown and black grain. again a smooth silky refinish.

this piece was redesigned with the #SEVERNSISTERSART exhibition at the 7Q Gallery in Chepstow in mind. Inspired by our glorious Forest greenery and flora in mind.
