Meet ‘Gloria’ the 1950s Bureau.
She was covered in dark brown varnish when she arrived here at Refunked HQ. She has been completely stripped back and refinished to a high standard. I’ve left her bare wood in parts which has been treated to a clear matt varnish.
Then painted the frame a dark grey eggshell. She has a warm bold mustard tone on her sides and drawer front. ‘Gloria’ has been treated to new brass knobs and still has her original key with working lock.
.
The carved detail at the bottom of her cupboard doors is divine.
This has been treated to a little gold leaf to emphasise this unique detail. The sliders that pop out when you drop the writing desk down have also been treated to gold leaf.
When you open ‘Gloria’, She reveals her original dark brown writing pad in used but good vintage condition. ‘Glorias’ insides echo the palette used on the exterior.
She also has her original makers sticker on the inside. ‘Supplied by Platts of Hammersmith’.
All mechanisms and hinges are original and in excellent condition. The mustard drawer is a good deep useful size, as is the cupboard which has a shelf splitting it in half. Again a useful storage space.
She is sturdy to sit and write at and is eagerly awaiting her new forever home. She will certainly add a splash of bold elegance to your home.
Please contact me to arrange socially distance viewings outside at my workshop in the Forest of Dean.
