Art Nouveau Mahogany Redesigned Over Mantle Mirror

This gorgeous mahogany Over Mantle mirror is in fantastic condition for its age. I’m thinking its Art Nouveau or early Deco

The original mirror is bevelled by approx. 1 inch which gives it a nice deep refraction.

The mirror itself is leaded giving it a good weight. It has no scratches and a very very slight patina forming at the very top edge. This just adds to its beauty and by no means does it make the mirror look any less beautiful if anything it adds to its natural aged look fabulously.

The sides of the frame has elegant carved plinth like details which allow the mirror to stand on a mantle or a piece of furniture with  brass fixings on the top and sides to hang for extra safety due to its weight.

The carved top and bottom of the frame have a very simplistic nouveau style to them. With the top part having a rounded flower like shape and deco swirled detail.

This piece is mahogany. but the backing on the mirror are pieces of oak. I’ve stripped this piece back and added Mid Azure a dark teal to some of the plinth details as long with black strips too. The whole piece has then had very slight aged bronze gold details to just the right places to make it shimmer ever so slightly.

The whole piece has been treated with Osmo oil with a very slight sheen to the bare wood
