This vintage chunky extremely heavy chair was found covered in thick orange varnish. Not a pretty site. It’s been completely stripped back, then had it legs treated to the Shou Sugi Ban technique which has pulled it’s grain out, which were then treated to a clear matt varnish.

The seat pad and back were then painted in Little Greene Paint company , ‘Jack Black’. I have applied the paint in a technique that is a block colour but allows you see the grain of the wood subtly when the light hits it.

The celtic style carving on the back of the chair has been picked out in a bronze gold paint by Craig & Rose.

This Fabulous cushion has been made by @Annieshaul a textile artist and upholsterer who lives locally to my workshop. She has a a fantastic collection of Welsh tapestry fabrics and made this reversible cushion to fit the chair perfectly. It has blue, brown and golden tones to it.

This is an extremely heavy and comfortable chair.
